BACK TO SCHOOL: A SWAZILAND CHALLENGE (2006)
Description

Commissioned by Channel Television, “Back to School: A Swaziland Challenge” follows the journey of a team of nine volunteers leaving their office jobs behind for a month to go to Swaziland and build a block of classrooms at a rural primary school. The programme also looks at the issues that this community has to deal with in their daily lives.

The high rates of HIV/AIDS in Swaziland mean that half of the 360 children at the school have been orphaned. This is an educational and heart warming story that illuminates the reality for a rural African community and the appreciated support and commitment from overseas volunteers.

“Xanthe’s documentary will give our viewers a real insight into how a local aid project has had such a positive impact on the people of this African community. We are delighted to be able to support the project by commissioning this programme for our regional schedule.”
(Karen Rankine, Director, Channel Television)

THE MISSION (2004)
Description

Commissioned by Channel Television The Mission is a moving documentary which looks at the work of the Leprosy Mission in India. Xanthe spent two weeks in India gathering footage for the programme. This documentary takes you on a journey from the slums of Delhi, to remote tribal villages in Central India, stopping in at leprosy hospitals and calling on life changing micro-financed community projects along the way.

“We commissioned Xanthe to make ‘The Mission’ after the success of a short feature she'd filmed in Romania, broadcast last January….a compelling programme, sensitive and moving in the way it has been told. Xanthe is a talented producer with the ability to approach difficult and often harrowing situations and convey them to the viewer with simplicity and honesty.”
(Karen Rankine, Director, Channel Television)
